Information Assurance for DoD and Homeland Defense:
Prevailing Against the Threat

Last year, Department of Defense (DoD) networks and information systems suffered an estimated 80,000 attacks. Additionally critical infrastructures are being hit by an estimated 500 to 1000 attacks from hackers and malicious code ever year. This year, the Obama Administration is increasing the national information technology budget exponentially. The DoD?s estimated $4 billion IT security budget accounts for about 13 percent of its total fiscal 2009 $33 billion IT budget request. Homeland Security is receiving a reported $355 million for Cyber Security and most of the Intelligence Community is being tasked and funded heavily in this area as well. Given our ever-increasing reliance on dynamic information systems and global computer networks, it is absolutely imperative that the US directly engages these threats by establishing effective cyber security and information assurance strategies and technologies in order to avert potential catastrophes.

This outstanding conference brings together senior level military, government and industry experts from key information assurance (IA) and cyber security organizations. These distinguished experts will provide you with invaluable insight into how OSD, the Services, and government organizations are planning to prevail against the onslaught of persistent and emergent cyber threats. They also will discuss the unique IA challenges relative to their operational domains, e.g., the Global Information Grid (GIG), the Intelligence Community, and Departments of State and Homeland Security.

  • Who are the enemies, and how is the threat evolving?

  • How does the ever-increasing use of social networks affect the window of vulnerability and can this challenge be overcome?

  • In what direction are IA compliance standards going, and what will it take to adopt them?

  • How do we securely get critical information to the warfighter? What solutions do DoD and Government need to ensure mission success?

These critical questions and many more will be examined during this important event.
